  • The History of Clairbourn — A Century of Vision, Growth, and Heart

    In 1926, Arthur K. Bourne, heir to the Singer Sewing fortune, envisioned a school for his three children that was grounded in strong family values, academic excellence, and character building. Together with friends from their Christian Science Sunday School, the Bourne children became the first students of what was then called the Claire Louise Progressive Elementary School. As enrollment quickly grew, the school soon outgrew the Bourne family home and relocated to a bungalow on San Pasqual Street. As the school grew, so did a strong sense of community, a defining hallmark of Clairbourn that remains today, 100 years later.

    Gratitude is a simple idea with powerful impact. It means being thankful, but more importantly, it means taking time to notice the good around us. Gratitude invites us to pause and recognize the people who support us, the moments that bring us joy, and even the small blessings we sometimes overlook in our busy days.
  • Applying Engineering Skills from Launch to Landing

    This fall, Clairbourn students set out to tackle our Mission to Mars Engineering Design Challenge. They were asked the question, 'How might we design a device to safely land a water balloon falling from a very high height?" to model the challenge faced by NASA scientists and engineers when trying to land the Mars Rovers Sojourner, Spirit, Curiosity, Opportunity, and Perseverance.
