  • Daycare Supervisor / Preschool Teacher Assistant

    Clairbourn School is a coeducational, private school for students in preschool through middle school (JPK-8th) that has continuously served the greater Pasadena area since 1926. We are known for excellent academics, our welcoming community, our attractive campus, and a strong record of sending graduates to top area high schools. Clairbourn educates over 200 students and employs over 30 highly motivated and skilled educators. Clairbourn is accredited by both CAIS and WASC.

    Clairbourn School is hiring a Daycare Supervisor / Preschool Teacher Assistant. This is a full-time, non-exempt, hourly position that begins as soon as possible and ends in mid-June, approximately 40 weeks.  Hours 9:30 -5:30

    Requirements and Qualifications

    • Completion of 12 or more semester units or equivalent quarter units in early childhood education or child development 
    • 3 - 5 years experience working in a school or childcare setting preferred
    • High energy level, creativity, joy, positive attitude, and flexibility
    • Excellent communication skills
    • At least 18 years of age
    • Competent to provide the services necessary to meet the individual needs of children in care
    • In good health and physically and mentally capable of performing assigned tasks
    • Documentation of a health screening and proof of required immunizations 
    • Test for tuberculosis not more than one year prior to or seven days after employment
    • Documentation of a Department of Justice criminal record clearance or exemption as required by law

    Daycare Supervisor Duties and Expectations

    • Directly supervise after school daycare students in the classroom and on the playground
    • Maintain a sign in/out roster of daycare attendees
    • Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children, co-workers, and parents from all backgrounds
    • Use positive techniques for guidance and redirection of children
    • Maintain a clean, safe, and neat environment
    • Present a positive, supportive, and professional image to parents and other staff members, including dress, demeanor, and communication
    • Develop and maintain appropriate and positive relationships with children, colleagues, and families

    Preschool Teacher Assistant Duties and Expectations

    • Actively support and assist the classroom teacher by providing help with classroom management, supervision, and instruction of the children enrolled in the program
    • Report directly to the teacher to which he/she is assigned
    • Prepare materials as directed by the teacher
    • Assume primary responsibility for cleanup of all classroom and play yard activities
    • Assist teacher with curriculum activities as directed
    • Interact frequently with the children while respecting individual differences and encouraging developmentally appropriate independence, and pro-social behavior
    • Actively supervise the children during school activities giving special attention to safety concerns 
    • Actively engage in documentation of individual children’s experiences as directed by the classroom teacher
    • Work cooperatively with all staff members to maintain a quality program
    • Follow NAEYC’s ‘Code of Ethical Conduct’ 
    • Support the mission and philosophy of the school
