Mr. Aguilar

Music/Drama Teacher

My educational/professional background:
I am a native Angeleno, born in Glendora, California. I attended Monrovia High School. My higher education journey began at Citrus College, where I pursued my passion for the French horn and performed with the Sierra Wind Symphony.

I later transferred to Azusa Pacific University, where I worked toward a Bachelor of Music in French Horn Performance. During my time there, I had the opportunity to perform with the university’s premier Symphony Orchestra and Studio Orchestra, as well as exhibit at the California State Music Educators Conference.

Since then, I have continued to sharpen my abilities by attending and leading music master classes across the country. I am a versatile multi-instrumentalist who plays more than a dozen instruments, with professional-level proficiency on the French horn, trumpet, bugle, and conch. My passion for music continues to inspire me to grow as both a musician and a leader while sharing my experience and knowledge with others.

I choose to teach at Clairbourn because:

I chose to continue my teaching career at Clairbourn after spending four years in the San Gabriel Unified School District. After learning more about Clairbourn and visiting the campus in person, I was immediately impressed by the standard of excellence reflected in everything from the heart of the community to the curriculum.

It was evident to me that the faculty, staff, and families are deeply committed to the safety, education, and compassionate upbringing of every student. That commitment, coupled with the opportunity to help grow a vibrant music program, made Clairbourn a special place for me.

I feel truly blessed and honored to be part of this community and to contribute to our shared mission: Creating Scholars and Leaders with Heart.

My favorite Clairbourn tradition is:
My favorite Clairbourn tradition is remembering the heart of our community in all we do.

What brings me joy is:
Inspiring the next generation of musicians is one of the most fulfilling and awe-inspiring parts of my career. My love of music began at the young age of 3, when I became involved in the children’s music program at my local church. Through early experiences with children’s choirs, musicals, and instrumental music, I discovered a loving community where music provided an outlet for expressing the full range of human emotion.

By fourth grade, I knew I wanted to be a musician. When it came time to choose an instrument at my public school, I drew straws for a trumpet but ended up with a brand-new silver French horn instead! Because of that experience, I have always said that the French horn found me.

From there, I fell in love with classical music, especially the wonderful repertoire written for the French horn. That passion kept me playing throughout my time at Citrus College and later at Azusa Pacific University.

Music has a way of teaching us so much about life: how to approach time with intention, how to find the appropriate tone, how to listen to others, and how to express ourselves. These are lessons I hope to share with the next generation of musicians.
