Mrs. Sampson

Art Teacher

My educational/professional background:

I am a teaching artist with a passion for connecting young artists to their creative ideas. Since earning my master’s degree in art education from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2014, I have taught art across a variety of settings and communities. I hold a Pre-K to 12 Visual Arts Teaching Credential and have taught all ages. I have worked in schools and communities in South Africa, Costa Rica, Thailand, Vancouver, and more. I’ve had the opportunity to be on education teams at the National Gallery of Art, Baltimore Museum of Art, VMFA, The Phillips Collection, and The Norton Simon Museum, so I love bringing museum learning into the classroom, too.

I maintain an active studio practice alongside my work as an arts educator, focusing on painting and ceramics.

I choose to teach at Clairbourn because:
Working with young artists at Clairbourn is a joy. I love creating a wide range of experiences that encourage each student to explore, experiment, and grow in their own artistic practice.

My favorite Clairbourn tradition is:
My favorite Clairbourn tradition is being grounded in gratitude at each Morning Assembly.

What brings me joy is:
I love watching young artists be courageous in their creativity. Outside of teaching, I love backpacking in wild places, traveling to see my family, and reading good books.
