Ms. Montgomery

Middle School English Teacher

My educational/professional background:
I have a Master of Arts in Urban Education from LMU and a Bachelor of Arts from USC. I also have an Education Specialist Credential from the state of California. I started my teaching career through Teach for America, a prestigious program dedicated to education equity. I am thrilled to see my path wind back around to Clairbourn, the school I attended from preschool to eighth grade. I am passionate about the power of reading and writing; I am grateful for the opportunity to explore that power with young minds. My teaching philosophy is that children need high expectations, as well as the support and resources necessary to meet those expectations.

I choose to teach at Clairbourn because:
This school has a special place in my heart, as I attended Clairbourn from preschool to 8th grade. It means the world to me to be able to give back to the community that gave me so much as a child. My fondness for Clairbourn has only grown as a teacher. I am proud to contribute to the school's mission in shaping young minds to be scholars and leaders with heart.

My favorite Clairbourn tradition is:
My favorite Clairbourn tradition is Morning Assembly. It is so valuable and rewarding to have the whole school community to come together on a daily basis to share information and positive messages. Moreover, I love that every student must speak at least once at morning assembly; this gives students a piece of ownership over the operation of the school. We all play a role in Clairbourn's success. The Morning Assembly sets the right tone for the day.

What brings me joy is:
What brings me joy is when my students and I gush over books together.
