Mr. Beaber

Innovation Lab Coordinator & Teacher

My educational/professional background:

I joined Clairbourn in 2022. Prior to that, I began my professional career with a Bachelor's degree in Astrophysics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where I nebulae with Wisconsin H-Alpha Mapper research group, and built the testing facility for Project Ice Cube, a world-wide Neutrino Observatory in Antarctica. After a brief stint at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, I found my way into education over 15 years ago. While pursuing a Master's Degree in Curriculum & Instruction, Digital Media and Technology Education at the University of Wisconsin I became the Madison Children's Museum's first Science Coordinator as well as co-chair of the Playful Learning Conference as part of the Games+Learning+Society Research Group at UW-Madison. Since then I have worked developing educational games at Gamedesk, built and grown makerspaces at Milken Community School, Pressman Academy, and Los Angeles Public Library, and built the Professional Development Program for BrainPOP Science. I am also a CYT-200 Certified Yoga Instructor and received my Social-Emotional Learning Facilitator Credential from Breathe For Change.

I choose to teach at Clairbourn because:
I chose to work at Clairbourn because of the passion, curiosity, and dedication of the students, teachers, faculty and community.

My favorite Clairbourn tradition is:
My favorite Clairbourn tradition is Engineering Week! A unique chance for all of the students in the school to work on a similar objective, towards a similar goal, and learn together throughout the process.

What brings me joy is:
I love trying something new and helping others try something new. Getting to see the process from a student saing "Mr. Beaber can we...." to the completion of their prototype which might be minutes, hours, weeks, months, or even years down the road fills me with joy. I also enjoy baking, boating, beaches, and being in the wilderness.
