MRS. SHOEMAKE

Kindergarten Teacher

My educational/professional background:
I earned a BA In Education and Theatre from Principia College. Additionally, I earned an elementary teaching degree for K-6th grade, which includes 6-8th English. I also earned an MS degree in Early Childhood Education from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. I have been teaching at Clairbourn since 1999.

I choose to teach at Clairbourn because:
Clairbourn gives me support to be the teacher I want to be. The administration is in my corner with encouragement, ideas, feedback, and resources. I love collaborating with my coworkers who care and work hard to provide meaningful learning opportunities for their students. The campus is filled with qualities you hope to see at a school like joy, enthusiasm, intelligence, love, respect, spirit, tenacity, friendliness and teamwork. Also, the physical campus is just beautiful!

My favorite Clairbourn tradition is:
My favorite tradition at Clairbourn is hatching baby chickens in our kindergarten classrooms. When I first visited Clairboun in 1999 to come teach here, the JPK class had hatched ducks, and I thought they were so cute! I love that I have been able to be a part of that long standing tradition at Clairbourn. Now we hatch chicks and it is a joy every year to watch!

What brings me joy is:
I love learning, teaching, and being with kids. I also love being with my family, traveling and reading.
