Third Graders Embrace a Season of Learning Inside and Outside the Classroom

Jeanette Zamora, Director of Communications and Marketing
Third graders recently visited the La Brea Tar Pits, where they explored fascinating fossil exhibits featuring Ice Age creatures like mammoths, saber-tooth cats, and dire wolves. Students observed scientists at work in the fossil lab, experienced the sensation of getting stuck in sticky asphalt, and had a guided fossil detective tour. They also explored active dig sites and saw real tar bubbling to the surface. Special thanks to our wonderful parent chaperones for joining us on this memorable excursion!

Back at school, students participated in a Book Tasting Event at the tables outside of their classroom. With new titles from the book fair, they sampled a variety of genres, discovered new favorites, and were challenged to read at least one book from each genre before the end of the year—a fun and creative way to inspire a lifelong love of reading!

Students also had the chance to become young entrepreneurs during Market Day, putting the economic concepts they learned in class into practice. Working with partners, they developed market plans, created advertising posters in Canva, and produced their own products to sell. Afterward, they calculated income, subtracted production costs, and determined their net profits. It was an exciting hands-on learning experience that helped prepare them for future endeavors at the annual Clairbourn Entrepreneurial Fair!
