TUITION AND THE ANNUAL FUND MAKE A CLAIRBOURN EDUCATION POSSIBLE.

What is the Annual Fund?

The Annual Fund is Clairbourn’s most important yearly giving campaign. It helps bridge the gap between tuition and the actual cost of a Clairbourn education—approximately $3,000 per student.

Gifts to the Annual Fund support the school’s general operating budget, making up about seven percent of total expenses. These funds directly enhance classroom experiences, specialist programs, and student opportunities across campus.

Every member of our community is asked to participate—gifts range from $5 to $50,000. All gifts, no matter the size, make a difference. And because they’re tax-deductible, they give back in more ways than one.

Why Give?

Clairbourn School was founded through a gift from the Arthur K. Bourne family — San Marino residents seeking an education for their daughter rooted in spiritual values.

Today, that legacy continues with you.

Your gift supports the people and programs that make Clairbourn exceptional—dedicated teachers, small class sizes, and enriching specialist classes like art, drama, iLab, music, library, P.E., and sports.

Tuition alone doesn’t cover the full Clairbourn experience. Your support helps ensure students receive every opportunity to grow, learn, and become scholars and leaders with heart.

Frequently Asked Questions

List of 4 frequently asked questions.

  • My family is already paying tuition. Why are we being asked to give more money?

Gifts to the Annual Fund are necessary because tuition doesn’t cover all the opportunities our students receive. The Annual Fund allows us to bridge the gap between tuition cost and actual cost of a Clairbourn education. No independent school would want to price itself out of the market, so keeping tuition rates competitive while supplementing with an Annual Fund campaign is a common practice of most independent schools. Plus, while tuition payments are not tax deductible, donations to the Annual Fund are 100% tax deductible.
  • How much should I give?

Give an amount that makes you feel comfortable. We hope Clairbourn sits in your top three charitable organizations, but understand that life is full of financial demands.
  • Why can’t the school just raise the cost of tuition to include the actual cost?

If tuition was increased to include all costs, many families would be unable to afford an independent school experience, and this would exclude those talented and deserving students who add so much to the Clairbourn community. A diverse student population enriches the educational experience for all of our students and their families. Increasing the tuition price to cover costs would further limit enrollment and could require a cutback in the things that make our school special– talented teachers and specialists, smaller class sizes and up-to-date technology.
  • Does my gift really matter?

Yes! Each gift makes a significant difference to our community. Your gift helps to provide an atmosphere of educational excellence to every Clairbourn student. Participation in the Annual Fund builds a stronger, more unified community and represents an investment in our collective future, one child at a time.

High Annual Fund participation levels can also help Clairbourn raise crucial dollars from outside foundations and institutions. Greater participation helps the school when applying for grants and helps in securing gifts from large corporations because these institutions support schools who are first supported by their loyal community.
