Great Progress and Great Courage
Clairbourn School was a very unique experience. During my first year, my English wasn’t very good because I speak Chinese and am from Beijing. I have to thank this school for helping me develop my English, my grades, to have a better personality, and be more mature. Winston Churchill said: "…it is the courage to continue that counts.”

When I got to this school, I always mispronounced words and made mistakes on grammar. My grades were not great. They were usually average scores such as B’s or C’s. They were bad because either I didn’t study enough or I just did not understand English at the time. As I grew older, I learned from my mistakes by asking teachers about how to speak and write English.
I struggled with homework and had to sit inside the classroom to catch up on my work while the others were outside playing games on the field. Eventually, I caught up my assignments by the end of the year, and I surprisingly got the Wallden Scholarship trophy as a reward for my work.

Whenever I failed a middle school test, I would ask the teacher for help and make it right. Sometimes I asked to take it again. I wanted to know what I was doing wrong immediately. I also learned how to manage my time, especially during testing. I was able to raise my grades in 6th grade when I got my first Honor Roll. Since then, I have gotten on and stayed on the Dean’s list.
