About Us

"Creating Scholars and Leaders with Heart."
Founded in 1926, Clairbourn School is an independent, coeducational day school for students in preschool through eighth grade. The Clairbourn model of education includes a rigorous curriculum, inspired teaching, character education, and a strong sense of community. Our students acquire essential 21st-century skills and intellectual habits of mind that lead to success in school and in life.

The Clairbourn Graduate

Clairbourn is proud to announce its new mission statement: "Creating Scholars and Leaders with Heart." We're not changing who we are, we're just stating it clearly for all to understand. Anyone who is familiar with the school knows that our graduates stand out for these three reasons.

Success By Design

At all grade levels, small classes are designed to motivate, engage, and support students to reach high levels of achievement. Learning is active, and teaching is a dynamic blend of both traditional and innovative methods.

A wide variety of co-curricular programs allow students to expand their learning well beyond the core curriculum. They can be athletes, actors, and artists; they can be leaders in their school and community; they learn to be responsible, respectful, and caring.

Right Fit for Families

Students are accepted to Clairbourn's elementary and middle school grades on the basis of their previous academic performance, in-house academic assessment for Grades 1-4, standardized test scores for Grades 5-8, writing samples, teacher recommendations, and, in the case of preschool through kindergarten, their maturity and school readiness. We welcome students of any race, color, religion, and national or ethnic origin.

Parents are also welcome on campus! Our families are an integral part of Clairbourn’s vibrant, supportive community, and they demonstrate to their children the value of education through participation in the life of the school.

Educational Philosophy

Education at Clairbourn School is founded on a belief in the ability of every student to achieve balanced and competitive academic success. We strive to impart in our students not only the mastery of academic content, but also the development of intellectual habits and leadership skills, and a strong social and cultural competency. The school embraces proven educational methods informed by research, and the school constantly updates its program with fresh, innovative ideas, tools, technologies, and experiences. This commitment to educational excellence is founded on the following core beliefs.
