A Message From Head of School Dr. Patzlaff

Clairbourn is an independent school serving preschool through middle school (JPK-Grade 8) students in the greater Pasadena area and beyond. We are proud of our reputation as one of the finest schools in the area. We offer small class sizes, a highly-trained and experienced faculty, a challenging curriculum, and a beautiful eight-acre campus. Our 95 years in education have taught us the importance of giving students both a rigorous academic program with a wide array of co-curricular classes and a strong foundation of values within a supportive and responsive community.
Our goal is to develop in our students the skills, habits, and an ethical compass that will open doors. We have designed a program to ensure they will have excellent choices in their futures.
The combination of academics, character, and ethical and spiritual values provide students with a foundation unmatched among area schools on which to build a successful life and career—a sense of true belonging, an inner strength, and a positive sense of self-worth necessary to be accomplished, resilient, stable, and adaptable through life’s challenges. Our students need these foundational qualities and so does our world.

Clairbourn families are a crucial part of the school community. Our families partner with the school to support the foundation work and the atmosphere of learning, belonging, joy, challenge, and success.

The parent/school partnership is evident on a daily basis when parents join us for Morning Assembly, volunteer in our school store, serve lunch on special lunch days, and lead events like the book fair and carnival. Each act of service to the school directly supports the vibrant student experience. Parent involvement models the importance of serving one’s community and shows students the value parents place on the opportunity for their children to receive an excellent Clairbourn education.

At all grade levels, Clairbourn’s small class sizes are designed to motivate, engage, and support our students to reach higher levels of achievement. Small classes allow each student to be known by their teacher and for their individual needs to be addressed. Our teachers blend traditional methods with new, innovative approaches to reach students in meaningful ways, and our school offers a wide array of technology and other tools that support student learning. Our safe and secure campus environment, as well as our friendly and supportive atmosphere, ensures that the focus of each school day is where it should be—on learning, discovery, and development.

The Power of Goal Setting - Head of School Dr. Patzlaff to Run Her Fourth LA Marathon

Four-time Boston Marathon champ Bill Rodgers has wisely said, "The advice I have for beginners is the same philosophy that I have for runners of all levels of experience and ability: consistency, a sane approach, moderation, and making your running an enjoyable, rather than dreaded, part of your life."

Our graduates are prepared to be successful in high school, college, and adult life. We believe it is essential to learn to communicate ideas clearly and effectively and to work well with others from a standpoint of respect. The diversity of culture, beliefs, and economic backgrounds at Clairbourn prepares students for real world experiences beyond school. Our emphasis on universally celebrated spiritual values and positive behavior guides our students to find strength, to persevere, and to overcome challenges that they will inevitably face.

Our goal is to develop in our students the skills, habits, and an ethical compass that will open doors. We have designed a program to ensure they will have excellent choices in their futures.

With the character and abilities they gain at Clairbourn, they can be engineers, athletes, doctors, actors, business people, entrepreneurs, scientists, teachers, and artists; they can be confident leaders in their schools and communities. But whatever their choice, they will be ethical, responsible, respectful, grateful, adaptable, and resilient citizens.

This website is a great place to start learning about Clairbourn. However, nothing can replace a personal visit. Please come to our campus and experience first-hand our vibrant community of inspired educators and students, and feel the joy of the Clairbourn experience.

Warmly,

Amy Patzlaff, Ed. D.
