Director of Development & Alumni Relations

Clairbourn School is a coeducational, private school for students in preschool through middle school (JPK-8th) that has continuously served the greater Pasadena area since 1926. We are known for excellent academics, our welcoming community, our beautiful  campus, and a strong record of sending graduates to top area high schools. Clairbourn educates over 260 students and employs over 30 highly motivated and skilled educators. The administration team is collaborative, forward thinking, committed and amicable. SUMMARY 
Plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates ongoing and special project funding programs for the School by performing the following duties in collaboration with staff members and/or volunteers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Prepares planned activities and enlists support from members of administration, faculty, staff, trustee committees and Clairbourn Families Association (CFA).
  • Develops fundraising materials to support the school’s goals and promote its fundraising programs.
  • Identifies potential contributors to special project funds and supporters of the school’s ongoing operations through examination of past records, individual and corporate contacts, and knowledge of the community.
  • Plans and coordinates the Annual Fund drive and other campaigns for special projects
  • Prepares for and plans major milestone events for the school (Centennial Celebration, etc.).
  • Assigns responsibilities for personal solicitation to members of the staff, the CFA, and the trustees according to special interests, contacts, knowledge or capabilities.
  • Organizes campaigns to reach other potential contributors.
  • Plans and coordinates the overall design of the annual Clairbourn Benefit in close contact with the CFA Benefit Chairperson.
  • Organizes solicitation drives for pledges of ongoing support from individuals, corporations, and foundations for the various endowment funds.
  • Informs potential contributors of special needs of the institution, and encourages individuals, corporations, and foundations to establish or contribute to special funds through endowments, trusts, donations of gifts-in-kind, or bequests, conferring with accountant and/or attorneys to establish methods of transferring funds to benefit both donors and the school.
  • Researches public and private grant agencies and foundations to identify other sources of funding for research, community service, or other projects.
  • Maintains records of contributors and grants and prepares letters of appreciation and tax receipts to be sent to contributors.
  • Oversees the implementation of the yearly report on giving to all constituencies
  • Provides statistical information for the annual state and national surveys.
  • Organizes Alumni Events and communications.
  • Facilitates continuing connections with alumni.
Experience and Skills:
  • Alignment with and ability to articulate the mission and values of Clairbourn School
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, and all constituents
  • Critical and strategic thinker who possesses strong time and project-management skills
  • Professional and courteous demeanor 
  • Ability to plan and execute events and programs with creativity, innovation and high level of organization and measure/report their impact.
  • Knowledge of educational fundraising culture is an asset and experience with secondary or higher education 
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Mandarin language proficiency - a plus 
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge or an equivalent

Preschool Teacher Assistant

Clairbourn School is a coeducational, private school for students in preschool through middle school (JPK-8th) that has continuously served the greater Pasadena area since 1926. Clairbourn School is hiring a Preschool Teacher Assistant. This is a full-time, non-exempt, hourly position that begins in late August and ends in mid-June, approximately 40 weeks.  

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Completion of 12 or more semester units or equivalent quarter units in early childhood education or child development 
  • High energy level, creativity, joy, positive attitude, and flexibility
  • Excellent communication skills
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Competent to provide the services necessary to meet the individual needs of children in care
  • In good health and physically and mentally capable of performing assigned tasks
  • Documentation of a health screening and proof of required immunizations 
  • Test for tuberculosis not more than one year prior to or seven days after employment
  • Documentation of a Department of Justice criminal record clearance or exemption as required by law
Duties
  • Actively support and assist the classroom teacher by providing help with classroom management, supervision, and instruction of the children enrolled in the program
  • Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children, co-workers, and parents from all backgrounds
  • Report directly to the teacher to which he/she is assigned
  • Prepare materials as directed by the teacher
  • Assume primary responsibility for cleanup of all classroom and play yard activities
  • Assist teacher with curriculum activities as directed
  • Interact frequently with the children while respecting individual differences and encouraging developmentally appropriate independence, and pro-social behavior
  • Actively supervise the children during school activities giving special attention to safety concerns 
  • Actively engage in documentation of individual children’s experiences as directed by the classroom teacher
  • Use positive techniques for guidance and redirection of children
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and neat environment
  • Present a positive, supportive, and professional image to parents and other staff members, including dress, demeanor, and communication
  • Work cooperatively with all staff members to maintain a quality program
  • Follow NAEYC’s ‘Code of Ethical Conduct’ 
  • Support the mission and philosophy of the school  
  • Develop and maintain appropriate and positive relationships with children, colleagues, and families
