Each week a first grade student is
chosen to be storyteller of the week in the library.
The librarian chooses a wordless book for the child to take
home the week prior to his time to be storyteller. With parental
help, the child makes up a story to go with the pictures in
the book, often adding character names and unique details
to the story to help make it interesting.
When the child comes to the library with
his or her class, he or she sits in a special chair designed
just for the storyteller. Parents are invited to come and
observe. The children are given a special pendant to wear,
announcing that they are Storyteller of the Week.
This is a tradition enjoyed by all.
