Physical Education - Scope and Sequence Summary
 

Kindergarten
  • Movement games and activities. Five-Mile-Club walk/jog/run for 10 minutes each week.
  • Team sports skills through group lead-up games and activities.
  • Swimming with emphasis on overcoming apprehension, learning about water safety, and enjoying water play.
First Grade
  • Conditioning and fitness activities. Five-Mile-Club walk/jog/run for 20 minutes each week.
  • Movement activities to develop specific skills.
  • Lead-up games for football, basketball, and soccer.
  • Swimming, with emphasis on overcoming apprehension, learning about water safety, and enjoying water play.
  • Track, including timed sprints to 220 meters; relays; hurdles over short cones.
Second Grade
  • Conditioning and fitness activities. Five-Mile-Club walk/jog/run for 20 minutes each week.
  • Movement activities to develop specific skills.
  • Lead-up games for football, basketball, and soccer.
  • Swimming, with emphasis on overcoming apprehension, learning about water safety, and enjoying water play.

Third Grade

Fourth Grade
  • Conditioning and fitness activities. Five-Mile-Club walk/jog/run for 20 minutes each week.
  • Team sports skill-building: Volleyball. Football on short field. Basketball with lowered baskets: Soccer. Track: Baseball/ and Softball using regulation balls:
  • Swimming: stroke technique and free swim.
  • Learning responsibility for care of P.E. uniforms, using lockers, and working locks.
Fifth Grade
  • Conditioning and fitness activities. Five-Mile-Club walk/jog/run for 25 minutes each week.
  • Team sports skill-building: Volleyball. Football on full field. Basketball at full court and regulation height. Soccer. Track. Baseball/ and Softball.
  • Swimming: improving stroke technique and free swim.
Sixth Grade
  • Conditioning and fitness activities. Five-Mile-Club walk/jog/run for 30 minutes each week.
  • Team sports skill-building: Volleyball, Football, Soccer, Basketball, Baseball/Softball, and Track and Field.
  • Swimming: introduction of racing dives, reinforcement of stroke development, free swim and water games.
Seventh Grade
  • Conditioning and fitness activities. Five-Mile-Club walk/jog/run for 30 minutes each week.
  • Team sports skill-building continues with the introduction of new skills as well as practice and enhancement of skills already learned in the areas of Volleyball, Football, Soccer, Basketball, Track and Field, and Baseball/Softball.
  • Swimming: continued instruction and practice in diving and reinforcement of stroke development; free swim and water games.
Eighth Grade
  • Conditioning and fitness activities. Five-Mile-Club walk/jog/run for 30 minutes each week.
  • Team sports skill-building continues with the introduction of additional skills as well as practice and enhancement of skills already learned in the areas of Volleyball, Football, Soccer, Basketball, Track and Field, and Baseball/Softball.
  • Swimming: introduction of the butterfly stroke; free swim and water games.
